An Australian football website, tribalfootball.com claims that former
Home United defender is on trial with Newcastle. Here's the news,
taken off the website:
"Newcastle United coach Ian Crook is
running the rule over experienced Singapore international, R Sasikumar.
The big centre-half is a hero in Singapore after hitting his
country's winning goal in the 1998 Tiger Cup final against Vietnam. He
also enjoys a strong following within India's football community.
Sasikumar is out of contract after his Home United deal ran out at
the end of last season's S-League. He is currently training with Crook's
first team squad in a bid to win a permanent move.
Newcastle also expressed an interest in Nigerian striker Chimaobi
Nwaogazi last week. Reports had United's GM Jock Graham seeking an
international clearance from Nwaogazi's Nigerian club, Udoji United for
the youngster."
While this rumor is unconfirmed, and too good to be true, it would be
nice to see a Singaporean playing in the England. We wish Sasikumar all
the best.
